I am trying to import my video. You seem to have added a new setting which allows the user to select how you would like the video to import (I assume that the 'hands' option should be selected when I have recorded my performance and would like to import it). However, when I import it, I can hear the sound, but the video does not appear. I never had this issue before this change. I am importing a .mov file as I always do.
My computer specs are attached as a screenshot, along with the screen recording showing the issue. My app is up to date. I have tried both 'assign to current' and 'create a new piece'.
Glad you were able to solve the issue!
This does make sense - a lot of users were complaining about the way the Crop Top function so I had to make it work like the other crop functions. Maybe I’ll add back in a switch to make it work like it did before.
2. Brightness 0 just makes the video black - I cannot see anything.
3. The sample files work. I retried older videos I uploaded and they still work. I also tried exporting from Final Cut Pro at 720p for Apple devices, but SeeMusic does not accept .m4v files. What is the recommended import settings to SeeMusic from Final Cut, because I'm losing a 4k 60fps video to import it, if you say that file size is an issue?
Update: I've exported as a smaller .mp4 (800MB) and this does not fix the problem. I will continue to experiment with smaller video files.
Update 2: I've tried more smaller files all the way down to 88MB - still no luck. I switched off all the light effects just in case they were overriding the video for some reason - still nothing. It doesn't seem to be an issue with the video files. Would you possibly be able to email me a file that works at your end?
Update 3: I've figured out the problem! I had cropped the top half of my video out. SeeMusic normally imports the video showing the piano, but it was defaulting the video position to the top (cropped and black) part of the video. A silly mistake on my part for not moving the positioning of the video as a troubleshooting step earlier! The reason that it was doing this on my older videos that previously worked could be for this same reason - does this tally up at your end?
Hello,
1. So there is a bug that occurs with an empty set list, which is what I had found and mentioned on email earlier this afternoon. However, I don't think it's necessarily what's causing your video issue. Regardless, I will be fixing that issue and uploading a new version - I just don't think that update will fix this video issue you're having.
2. In the Piece file you sent, the Video Brightness is set to 1, which causes the video image to be blown out and displayed as white, and was making it impossible to see any videos I imported...
After I set the Brightness back to 0, I was able to see imported videos again in that Piece file. It sounds like you were already checking Brightness, but please triple check that setting Brightness back to 0 doesn't fix this for you?
3. Please do try re-enabling the Sample Files so that you can see if that Sample Files work with the Sample Video.
- From the main home screen, click the computer screen icon just under the account button - this is where the Sample Files toggle is now.
- Turn on Sample Files, and check if the video loads in the first Sample piece - "Transcendental Etude no. 12 Chasse-Neige"?
Thank you!
Yes I'm sure that the video settings are correct. When I maximise the brightness, the video goes white, so it does seem to be acknowledging that there is something there. I cannot figure it out myself. I have been using the software for over a year now and I can usually find the workaround.
Sorry for the issue - however, there's just no way I can help until I have some idea what's wrong. I've tried to thoroughly test between many different recent versions of the app and can't replicate this issue in any of them.
- If you can at least send me the Log file after replicating the issue in the app, hopefully I'll be able to get a sense if there's an error.
- Have you also checked the Video Settings to make sure the opacity, scale and position of the video are all set to normal values?
- I can't send you an older version of the app for a variety of reasons related to the way Apple handles apps on their computers.
Hi - I'm trying to compile the files you requested (waiting for the files to be compressed so I can email them). In the meantime, I cleared the cache and this has not solved the issue. It is quite frustrating because I was hoping to meet a scheduling deadline, but I will now be unable to do so. I hope it will be solved promptly.
Can I please be sent an older version? The last two versions have had this issue for me - it worked fine before.
Clearing the cache is likely going to solve this problem - however, instead of deleting or changing anything, PLEASE just MOVE the following folder to your desktop, and keep the current structure and files intact - this will make it possible to hopefully debug what's happening here. Please send the Log file in step 3 before reopening the app.
~/Library/Containers/com.VisualMusicDesign.SeeMusicUnity/Data/Library/Application Support/com.VisualMusicDesign.SeeMusicUnity
To easily find this folder, use the GO menu at the top of the Finder, and select GO TO FOLDER, and copy that address into it.
2. Please send the following files to me at visualmusicdesign@gmail.com:
a) seemusicpreferences.smsettings in the App Preferences folder
b) All of the files in Save Files - you can zip up the folder if you like
c) The MIDI and Video files that are causing the issue, if possible
3. Please also send the Log file as well:
~/Library/Containers/com.VisualMusicDesign.SeeMusicUnity/Data/Library/Logs/Visual Music Design/SeeMusic/Player.log
Sorry if this is annoying - but it would be very helpful in helping to solve this issue from recurring or happening to other users!
Thank you!
The MIDI file imports fine and that part of the video plays fine.
2. This did not fix the issue.
3. I had switched this off somewhere. How can I turn it back on? Can I also clear my cache - is there a method for this?
1. Did you try importing the MIDI file as well?
SeeMusic is designed to work with always having a MIDI file there - just importing the video could lead to unpredictable results in the player.
2. After loading the files, it would also be a good idea to change to a different piece, then back to this piece, to reload the data - that could possibly fix the issue.
3. If none of that works, can you confirm if the first Sample Piece file is still loading video correctly? (Transcendental Etude no. 12 Chasse Neige).
