Hi,
this looks like fantastic software, and I'm incredibly keen to get it working- I installed Windows 10 (reluctantly), & figured out how to record MIDI. I've got my overhead shot and MIDI, everything looked great in your software when editing, but it just gets stuck at 0% at the rendering stage. I've tried turning off *all* the effects leaving only the original video, the render settings are for the minimum resolution, quality, no sound, etc. I've also tried using your sample files, again disabling all the effects, with the same negative result. (so probably not much point attaching my files) I'm using a Lonovo laptop, Windows 10 (x64) freshly installed with all the updates, Intel i5-2430M 2.4GHz dual core, 4GB RAM. I'll attach the log file (this doesn't seem to be working, it keeps saying 'failed to upload file') (it also failed after I logged back into Windows 7 and tried again) I really hope there's a solution for this, my heart is set on this video, and I do want to pay for the use of the working software!
I'm sorry the experience has been so frustrating!
The goal certainly is to make this as easy of a process as possible. Every time I get feedback from a user that I can act on to simplify things, I work my hardest to make sure that things work as simply and smoothly as possible. The app is also only 3 months old, with new features being added all the time - so certainly there are still a few kinks to be worked out. In addition, the "old" way of doing this in Adobe Creative Suite took hours, days, and weeks - there's no way around the fact that this is a complicated process, no matter how much I try to simply it for users.
Just to speak to a couple of your points:
Regarding the payment, this is specialized software, that I have put years of time and energy into coding. I need to charge something that is sustainable, that makes it possible for me to devote the amount of time and energy required. The alternative is indeed Adobe Creative Suite, which is also monthly, and much more expensive. In addition to the Creative Suite monthly charge, you would also need Trapcode Particular, which is $400, or $49.99 monthly. I've painstaking recreated the Particular effects, so the current pricing for SeeMusic for $1.99 a month (less on a Windows annual subscription) is a bargain by any estimation.
In terms of bugs - the only bug that I believe you had formally reported so far was that the app did not work on a Windows computer - I would absolutely be happy to look into any other specific bugs that you may have encountered, and would appreciate if you could report them one by one with specific details, here on the support forum.
For the Save File issue - the save files link to media based on filename. If the media filename is in your library, the file should relink to that file. Also, you should be able to assign the file to the piece once you've reimported it, without overwriting the saved Settings. If this is not working correctly, the easiest way for me to debug this would be for you to upload the Save File and the accompanying media files, so that I can debug the issue.
As a side note, if you think that Adobe After Effects and Trapcode Particular is stable software free from bugs, then I imagine you likely may not yet have attempted to make a piano video with particles the "old" way - it was absolute hell, and a miracle when the videos rendered correctly. No software is perfect, and every software company relies on users reporting bugs to improve their product.
Thanks for using SeeMusic, and will appreciate your help in continuing to improve the software!
Thanks for the reply- I logged back into Windows 10, tested DirectX, everything was fine on latest version, have all the Windows Media Frameworks that came up on a Google search. I then found myself banging my head against a wall with a different approach- a friend of mine with a Windows 10 laptop could render your sample videos, but despite putting my video and midi file in his app directory and placing my save file there, we could not get this to work. Very frustrating, as obviously all my settings I'd worked so hard to adjust were in that save file, and there's no way I wanted to do all that again, or ask/trust him to do it. I then very reluctantly upgraded my old Huawei P10 Android phone to Android 8 despite many reports of adverse issues and tried it on my phone. Again, more time spent trawling and searching all my files on my phone to see where I could simply place my save file to save me having to input all the adjustments and settings manually, but unlike almost every single other app, this is a mystery and not a clear location. So in the end I copied all the values from Windows into the Android version by hand. And lo and behold, it did actually render. I cannot believe my old Android phone would appear to be more powerful and stable than a dual-core i5 laptop. Now, where is that file? Another mystery. Sharing the file and emailing it just resulted in an error. Ah, not on the SD card which is obviously the most logical place for it. So, this all looks workable, even if it's been very time consuming, the process laborious, but success is possible with a lot of effort. Time to pay. Oh. No simple way to pay. I can't make an account from Windows 7. I don't want to use Google Pay. I have to log back into my Windows 10 account (dual boot, but hassle). Great, make an account. Oh. Conformation email. Right, log back into WIndows 7, Log back into WIndows 10. Oh, can't pay in local currency. Good thing I have a card that lets me pay in dollars without extra exchange charges. I have to say that this is obviously valuable software, and I'm honestly grateful you've made the effort to make it available for us. But I really have a problem with this subscription based model of 'ownership' (really more like lending). Over a couple of years, I'll end up paying far more than I would have done for robustly tested stable professional software made by a company employing many people.
The only other software I've needed to use that was subscription based was Adobe software for photographers/graphic designers, and we all know how popularly received that was. But you have us over a barrel with this one, so despite its flaws, bugs, need for fiddly time-consuming workarounds and relatively expensive subscription-based borrowing of the software, the results do look great and so I have been hooked for now.
Hello - sorry that it's not working right off the bat! Thank you for sending the log file.
One of the 3rd party frameworks required to render the videos isn't loading - it likely is because of an issue or compatibility problem with the Windows Media frameworks or DirectX installation on your computer.
I would make absolutely sure that you've installed any and all DirectX or Windows Media packages? That is the only thing I can think of that could possibly solve this.
I've emailed the logfile- I'm really hoping that as everything works in the preview that it'll be possible to figure out how to make the render work!
