Transfer/Sync User Data To New Device

Hi, I'm switching over to a new computer running the same OS (Windows 11). After installing SeeMusic on the new device, how do I transfer the user configuration/profile to the new device such that the visual settings, save/load settings, piece information etc. are the same as the ones in the old device? Basically I want to open SeeMusic and see the same setup as before.

I tried to copy some files over in folders such as Save Files, Settings Save Files from C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Visual Music Design\SeeMusic\ to the same directory in the new device but it does not work correctly as the visual settings are different (keyboard position, note opacity etc.) and the save/load settings only show 2 of the settings although I copied more than 10 .smsettings files over from the 'Settings Save Files' folder.

That’s very strange… sorry you had to deal with that!

This does seem like something that would be caused by Windows Explorer - I’m not sure if there’s anything I could do to prevent that in the future.

But hopefully future users may find this advice on the forum!

Hmm... That's strange... Your general approach to copying the data should work. I'm not sure exactly what could be going wrong.

- Did you try fully copying / replacing the full"SeeMusic" directory just inside the "Visual Music Design" directory from one computer to the other?

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

I did not do a full copy, I did a new clean installation of SeeMusic 5.0.5 on the new device. By "SeeMusic" directory, which one do you mean? Do you mean the one in the AppData folder or the ProgramFile folder? AppData: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Visual Music Design\SeeMusic\ ProgramFile: C:\Program Files\SeeMusic Please advise if I need to uninstall, or reinstall, or fully copy everything from any of the above folder(s).

I mean the one from the AppData folder.

Try completely replacing the AppData folder with the one from your old computer.

I found out the cause, only two of the setting files truly have the .smsettings extension and they are recognized by SeeMusic. The rest have .smsettings in the filename, NOT the extension, and the extension is .xml.

Not sure how the file extension for most of them (but not all) became .xml when they are being copied out of the AppData folder.

I manually removed the .xml from the file name (including file extension) for the rest of the files, and they finally show up correctly in SeeMusic.
