Glad it’s working now!
Ill note that feature suggestion.
Please consider leaving a 5-star review for SeeMusic on the MacOS Store - I would very much appreciate it.
Hi, Peter.
I was going to do the restore back to Mojave (too bad I didn’t have the 3.7 ver. in it) as you suggested, but I decided to stay with Catalina in light of this idea the Lord put in my awareness: A workaround so simple-it was hidden in plain sight.
What is this workaround that solved my problem of not seeing my camera (EOS Webcam Utility) in the SeeMusic camera input window? (INSERT HERE: Drum Roll and/or fanfare with very loud horns)
Using the HDMI cable from the camera with a USB capture card device. (D’OH!)
SeeMusic now sees my capture card USB in the input. I see my video with HDMI quality and the means to do my project.
Thanks, Peter for all your efforts. I appreciate you and your SeeMusic app.

P.S.
As a feature request, I would like to have the ability to manually adjust the key contact positions.
The ratio between the black keys and white keys on the SeeMusic virtual keyboard are slightly different to my keyboard. My black keys are slightly larger than the visual keyboard. So I have to scale both keyboards (and camera lens position) to the best compromise. It seems at best ~98% accurate.
A feature like that would make aligning foolproof. That’s just my 2 cents.
Have you tried running version 3.8.1 on MacOS Mojave yet, which was your last successful setup?
I would recommend restoring your backup of MacOS Mojave from 48 hours ago, and running SeeMusic 3.8.1. That should give you the exact circumstances that worked previously.
Thanks for the information.
Please do understand, as I explained in my email, that SeeMusic is not the only part of this equation.
Without a Canon camera on hand, it is impossible for me to test or debug a use case with the EOS utility, which is what is actually causing the issue here.
The webcam function is currently working perfectly on my Mac computers, so I cannot replicate the issue you’re experiencing.
You mentioned that you upgraded to Catalina in the process of trying to debug this. It is possible, indeed 99.99% certain, that the current version of SeeMusic now operates identically as the previous version of SeeMusic with respect to the camera feature. As much as you may think the issue is with the app, there may have been a different subtle change that happened on your computer since you used version 3.7.
I will take another look at the log you sent when I have time, but I still imagine that the issue at this point may have more to do with the operating system upgrade than something that has changed in the app.
Thank you for understanding the complexity and difficulty in resolving this issue.
The 3.8.1 Update is now live.
Could you please give it a try and see if it works now?
If not, please send the new Log File as before.
Thank you!
I believe I found a fix - I'm submitting an update to Apple tonight and it should hopefully be available tomorrow.
The Log file did show what was wrong - the Canon plugin isn't loading because of code-signing, and I did change a couple of things in the app's code-signing in the last build. Apple is very, very annoying about this stuff.
In any case, hopefully the 3.8.1 update will fix it. Thanks for sending the log file.
Ok, well, you can send the Log File, and I can check if there are any related errors.
The Log file on MacOS is located at:
~/Library/Containers/com.VisualMusicDesign.SeeMusicUnity/Data/Library/Logs/Visual Music Design/SeeMusic/Player.log
To easily get to this folder, use the GO menu at the top of the Finder, and select GO TO FOLDER, and copy that address into it.
You should be able to compress that into a .zip and upload to this post.
Or, you can email to visualmusicdesign@gmail.com
Since the camera feature is working perfectly on my available testing machines, and nothing has changed regarding this feature for months, if there are no errors in the log, unfortunately there isn't going to be a clear way for me to help here. But please send the log and I can check it.
Thank you
Unfortunately I can't send any previous versions on MacOS due to Apple's application signing process.
I just tested the camera input again on my Mac and everything is working fine on my mac in the new version. I truly promise nothing has changed with the camera in the new version.
Also, if the camera isn't showing up in the app, that is almost definitely a connection issue to the computer in general, rather than something going wrong in the app.
- Did you double-check your Camera Privacy settings in System Preferences? Make sure the box next to SeeMusic is checked - see attached screenshot
Thanks for letting me know - I can’t think of a single thing that has changed related to the camera in the update, but I will check.
1. Did you try restarting your computer?
2. Is the camera showing as an input in input settings?
